We’re accepting submissions!
Whether you write speculative fiction, or write about speculative fiction, we want to hear from you.
New, original stories
Do you have a fantasy, horror or science fiction short story that has not yet been published elsewhere, and would like for it to be considered for publication?
We will be accepting flash fiction of 1,000 words or less between March 1 and March 31, 2021. Click here for the flash fiction submission page.
There will also be another submission period in the fall of 2021.
If your story is accepted for publication, we pay 8 cents a word.
We are able to pay for original fiction through the kind generosity of our Patreon supporters. Your donations allow us to accept and publish original speculative fiction at a time when publishing opportunities for new writers are extremely limited.
Non-paying submission opportunities
We have a number of non-paying opportunities for writers to get published in MetaStellar, including essays, reviews, and reprints of stories published elsewhere. We welcome these submissions any time and will respond within a week.
If your essay, review, reprint, or except is accepted for publication, we will only request non-exclusive rights, meaning that you can publish these pieces anywhere else.
We will also include the author’s photo and bio with each post, as well as links to their Amazon book pages, personal websites, blogs, and social media pages.
We’re looking for essays on a topic of interest to readers of speculative fiction, 500 to 1,000 words in length. For example, there are always new developments in space exploration, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, genetic engineering, and similar topics that could be of interest to our readers.
Essays could also be about trends in speculative fiction, including books, movies, and television, or personal stories about the writing process.
We’re looking for reviews of at least 500 words, about books, movies, or TV in the fantasy, horror and science fiction genres.
We are accepting previously-published fantasy, horror or science fiction short stories.
The word lengths are 500 to 1,000 words for flash fiction, and 1,500 to 7,500 words for a short story.
We love to publish excerpts of published novels, especially recent releases by independent authors. We’re looking for an excerpt of 1,500 to 10,000 words. We are happy to include a link to the book’s Amazon page or other purchase information.
