Essays Guidelines and Submission Form

MetaStellar editors are looking for essays ranging from 500 to 1,000 words in length, although we are open to longer if our speculative fiction audience would love it. Ergo, there are three main types of essays MetaStellar publishes — those addressing scientific developments in areas like Artificial Intelligence and Space; those making critical observations on speculative fiction; and those expounding on the writing process in speculative fiction.

MetaStellar publishes original and previously published essays for free. We are unable to pay for essays. See our overview.

If you have an idea brewing for an original essay, please send your pitches to amira@metastellar.com, with the subject line “Review/Essay Pitch,” along with a sample of your writing. Feel free to email her with any other essay-related questions.

By submitting your work below, you affirm that you are the original writer of the text, and that you have rights to any images included. If your piece is accepted for publication, we will send you a contract giving us non-exclusive rights to edit and publish it, edits subject to your approval. You will receive a byline, an author bio at the bottom of each of your pieces, and a spot on our contributors list. You can also include all of your platform links.

  • Please write a summary, tag line or blurb about your submission, 50 words or less.
  • Please submit a one or two-sentence biography. Feel free to include links to your Amazon book page, author website, or social media pages.
  • Please submit a square headshot.
