Every year the World Science Fiction Convention announces the nominees for the Hugo Awards. This year, the 81st year of the convention, they’re in Chengdu, China. And several fan favorites are on the nominations list, including Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Nope, and an episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. A couple of friends of the MetaStellar community made the list again this year. Clarkesworld magazine editor Neil Clarke was nominated for best editor. We interviewed him on the Long Lost Friends segment of our YouTube channel last year, when he won the Hugo.
We also talked to him about science fiction writers from international authors.
Another friend of MetaStellar who was recognized today was short story author John Wiswell.
Andrea Goyan and E.E. King interviewed him a year ago about plotting, and about writing marginalized characters.
Like Clarke, Wiswell is a regular on the award nomination lists. And on the winning lists as well. He’s been nominated for a Hugo twice before, and has won a Locus and a Nebula.
The winners will be determined by the members of the World Science Fiction Society. To join, you’ll have to register for the convention, which costs $50, plus another $2 to $70 for actual admission to the event. Admission prices are based on whether you’ll be attending virtually or in person, on whether it’s your first Worldcon, and and on how old you are.
Before voting, you should brush up on the nominees.
